AUDI A1 premium supermini

This is AUDI A1 premium supermini. We’ve got a bit apathetic with the aggravate that is the Audi A1. After all, we accept a appealing acceptable abstraction what it’s all about and it seems to be actuality milked for all it’s worth. We did run the ‘Audi A1 Graffiti’ tease, and the ‘Audi A1 Design’ a few canicule ago. But we’d absitively we wouldn’t do addition until there was absolutely some able detail.

But back the video actuality alone in and we saw what Audi was adage we anticipation we care to address it. The video is aloof a ‘Talking Head’ video, this time featuring Werner Zimmermann, Audi’s Head of Quality. But what he says will put the car amidst the pigeons, decidedly as as far as BMW are concerned.

So what does he say? The acceptable Herr Zimmerman claims that the Audi A1 will be the alone exceptional car in its sector. Herr Zimmermann waxes agreeable (well, as agreeable as a Corporate German can) about the exceptional materials; the bound shut curve and console gaps; the tactility of the apparatus console and the brittle attention of the switches.

2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid

2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid
2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid
2012 Infiniti M35 Hybrid
Press release:

“Infiniti today confirmed that its first production hybrid vehicle will be part of the recently announced line of 2011 Infiniti M luxury performance sedans, which are scheduled to go on sale in spring 2010 at Infiniti dealers nationwide. The Infiniti M35 hybrid is expected to arrive about 12 months later as a 2012 model. It is Infiniti’s first hybrid in its 20-year existence, as well as the cleanest and most economical car in Infiniti’s history.

Realizing the high performance/low emissions promise of the recent Infiniti Essence concept car, the M35 Hybrid has been designed and engineered to add to, not take away from, the driving experience, a key part of any Infiniti’s appeal. The M35 Hybrid is based on the all-new M, which itself picks up styling cues from Essence, the show-stopper that made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show early in 2009.

The M35 Hybrid maintains a high performance luxury sedan profile, overlaying it with the fuel economy and CO2 emissions of a smaller car, while delivering driving flair to please any enthusiast – complete with charismatic V6 and rear-wheel drive handling.

Infiniti’s hybrid system, developed solely within Infiniti’s parent group, is a single electric motor/twin clutch arrangement. Innovatively, the first clutch is installed between the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and the electric motor. The result of this configuration, where all components act on a single prop shaft to the rear differential, is a consistent driving feel under all conditions with linear performance and the “direct responses” that the engineers sought.

The electric motor acts as both propulsion unit, boosting the V6 in “power assist” mode when maximum acceleration is required, and also as a generator. Along with charging the battery in the normal way, the motor recovers energy otherwise lost during deceleration and braking.

The M Hybrid can also run solely on its electric motor in certain driving conditions, furthering fuel efficiency and optimizing energy usage across the widest possible range of driving conditions. Details of driving range, performance and transmission will be released later.

As expected of Infiniti, several new technologies are introduced in the new M35 Hybrid, including a “laminated” lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack that is the same size as conventional batteries but offers twice the power. Lamination enhances the pack’s cooling performance, while temperature stability is further improved by the use of manganese positive electrodes. An end result of this is exceptional battery reliability.

The M35 Hybrid joins conventional engine-equipped 2011 M versions – including a new high-performance diesel V6 for Western Europe – as the first Ms to be sold across all of Infiniti’s world markets, currently 33 countries. All of the new-generation Infiniti M models are on target to beat their predecessors on fuel consumption and emissions – despite across-the-board performance improvements – thanks to a range of efficiency-enhancing measures.”

2010 Audi TTS Coupe

2010 Audi TTS Coupe
Audi's TT was traditionally known as a bit of a hairdresser's car versus a performance one, akin to the reputation of the Mazda Miata and unlike competitors such as BMW's Z4, Nissan's 350Z or Porsche's Boxster and Cayman. Unlike all the others, however, the TTS Coupe can squeeze in three passengers, thanks to its pair of folding jump seats under the hatch. Now on its second generation -- which was unveiled for the 2008 model year, with a 2007 MIA -- Audi made its biggest effort yet to compete with the competition with this 2009 TTS model.

2010 Audi TTS Coupe
As the most powerful TT variation since its U.S. introduction in 2000, the TTS produces 265 horsepower at 6,000rpm from a tuned version of VW's venerable 2.0 turbo inline-four with direct fuel injection. Torque plateaus at 258lb-ft from 2,500 to 5,000rpm, and the gains were attained thanks to a new engine block, cylinder head, pistons and connecting rods. The engine handily outmuscles the standard turbo's 200hp and 207lb-ft numbers, and the optional 3.2-liter V6 TT's 250hp and 236lb-ft.

The exclusive dancing partners of that powerplant include Audi's revised all-wheel drive system and a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox the automaker calls S-Tronic. Audi promises performance will be brisk, claiming sprint from a standstill to 60mph will take just 4.9 seconds. Top speed, as seems to be the common practice in German-made vehicles, is artificially limited to 155mph.
The coupe should tip the scales at somewhere near 3,150lbs.

Other features standard on the TTS include magnetic adaptive shocks along with 18-inch wheels. The TTS will go on sale in the U.S. in November of 2008, starting at just shy of $50,000. Europe will get a six-speed manual transmission option as well.

GM India to raise competition with a new small car

The recent decision taken by the Indian unit of General Motors of manufacturing small engines and transmission boxes in partnership with China based SAIC Motor Corp is believed to be having tremendous implications for India. What can even deepen the trouble for Indian automakers is the recent news of GM India's opting for its IPO. The fear is that GM India's long standing Chinese ally could acquire a significant stake in this process.

An industry source quoted as saying in a leading news daily in India that the bigger play, though, could be small cars which account for a lion's share of India's automobile sales and this is where the small engines alliance will play a key role. It is to be mentioned here that GM-SAIC joint venture is a 50:50 partnership between both of the company's. The joint venture company has already announced that it will be launching a light-weight commercial truck from  GM India's plant in Halol, Gujarat.

Moreover, the GM-SAIC partnership is also planning to launch a China bound fuel efficient engines ranging from 1 to 1.5 liters. After the manufacturing in China, the engines could be used in this JV's prospective low cost car in the Indian market. The car is expected to be priced at Rs 2 lakh and will be competing with the likes of Tata Nano and Hyundai's upcoming 800 CC car in this price segment. The JV is aiming to roll-out three cars and two light trucks in India by year 2012.

The GM India's current product portfolio includes a range of cars across the segments including small hatches Chevrolet Spark andBeat, entry level sedans like Chevrolet Aveo, premium sedan Chevrolet Cruze, SUV's like Chevrolet Tavera and luxury SUV likeChevrolet Captiva.

BMW concept cars:BMW Concept Gran Coupé

The concept study on display symbolises the outstanding design expertise of BMW. The BMW Concept Gran Coupé concentrates the fundamental values of the brand. Its body design authentically captures a sense of superior dynamic performance and high-quality elegance. The shaping style, which follows a coherent pattern down to the last detail, convincingly visualises BMW's philosophy as an automobile manufacturer. As with theConcept CS 2007, BMW once again sets new benchmarks in the design of 4-door coupes with a distinctive sporty character.
Based on a powerful tradition in this segment, the BMW Concept Gran Coupé carries the essence of brand values and the genes of BMW design into the future. The concept shows the classic features of all BMW coupes: the long wheelbase, the vaulted bonnet with forward-pointing lines, the set-back greenhouse, the flat silhouette, the coupe-style roof line and the short front overhang reflect the dynamic potential of the vehicle. The surface structures and the fact that the design quality is geared towards perfection illustrate the aspiration of the brand BMW to build 4-door high-performance coupes with the sportiest proportions and the most elegant design.
In the BMW Concept Gran Coupé, BMW presents the vision of a 4-door vehicle which combines the exclusivity of a Gran Turismo with the fascination of a high-performance sports car. The design of the concept study underscores the expertise of the brand BMW in the development of vehicles with a distinctive sporty character which offer space for more than two occupants. This reflects the particular quality of the BMW Group design philosophy, which consists in precisely and authentically translating the specific values of product substance into an aesthetically convincing shaping style. The design process is set through with a passion for aesthetic appeal and dynamic performance, precision and perfection. This is how the uncompromising premium aspiration of a BMW Group product, the unmistakable style of the brand BMW and the precisely defined character of each model are given concrete form.
The body design of the BMW Concept Gran Coupé expresses sporty flair in its ultimate form. The 4-door vehicle clearly signals the very highest level of dynamic performance with its extremely elegant, flat and coupe-like proportions. Stretching the entire length of the vehicle and therefore measuring almost 5 metres, flowing lines dominate the design, giving rise to outstanding aerodynamic levels, just as the low centre of gravity reflects an agile driving response.
The front section is defined by the BMW kidney grille characteristic of the brand - an icon of body design which is not just central but also a dominating element of front design. The kidney grille of the BMW Concept Gran Coupé has a flat appearance, with an asymmetrical side view which emphasises the close attention to detail. The central section with the kidney grille is formally separated from other BMW icons such as the headlights and air inlets. The clarity of the LED front lights highlights the vehicle's precision and premium aspirations. The air inlet runs back an extremely long way into the side section, making the front section appear particularly wide. All elements of the front section appear to merge to form a single, elegantly curved movement.
The sporty, flat silhouette provides an impressive body height of just under 1.40 metres. This makes the BMW Concept Gran Coupé up to 100 millimetres flatter than the BMW 5 Series or the BMW 7 Series Sedan. The roof line tapers off gently into the rear, thereby elongating the vehicle's proportions. The forward-tilted shark nose visually extends the bonnet and creates characteristic BMW proportions with its forward-pointing dynamism. This stretched character is also highlighted by the side lines, where there is a deliberate avoidance of the typical sill line. The flat proportions make the window graphics appear extremely narrow and dynamic at the same time. Another BMW design icon, the Hofmeister kink, is especially strikingly formed - additionally emphasising the exclusive character of the vehicle. The frameless doors give the BMW Concept Gran Coupé a modern character since the glass surfaces appear to merge seamlessly without being interrupted by columns.
At the rear, only design elements such as the lights and tailpipe trim appear to be visible at first sight. The entire rear section appears slimmer and lighter at the centre, though still exuding power and dynamic performance since the volume is reinforced towards the sides. The L-shaped light banks feature a slight, almost subtle curve and the entire design of the lines and surfaces highlights the vehicle's elegant overall appearance. The third brake light, positioned in the rear window, is also fitted with LED technology. It takes up the kink in the roof and illuminates the entire width of the rear window. The powerfully flared wheel arches above the rear axle highlight the particularly sporty character of the BMW Concept Gran Coupé.
Another highly sporty and also elegant feature is the rim concept in which the individual spokes extend deep into the centre of the rim towards the hub, giving the rim a striking three-dimensional quality. The spokes themselves are not solid but relief-milled, giving them a visual lightness.
The sculptural shaping style characteristic of the entire body design of the BMW Concept Gran Coupé permits a unique interaction between concave and convex surfaces. It also enables the light to be selectively reflected and channelled. Thus the exterior mirrors integrated in the window shaft appear very light, blending harmoniously into the side view since their shape assimilates the entire line styling. The BMW Concept Gran Coupéis a further development of the classic design of a notchback sedan in which the individual body sections merge harmoniously into a flat, elongated and at the same time dynamic overall image. The effect of this 4-door vehicle derives not just from specific highlights but from its overall appearance, which authentically reflects its character. The car's dynamic potential is embodied in its proportions and lines, signalling power but also elegance and forward thrust.
